How do I apply/remove foam latex?

Why does my piece smell funny?
Foam latex has sulfur in it. If you like, you can gently wash your piece in warm water, using a small amount of mild dish soap. Let it soak for 15- 20 minutes. Gently press/squeeze the piece under the water. Be sure to use a soft touch. Do not ring out or be rough with the piece. Once you have done that a few times, place the piece in clean warm water and repeat the process taking out any left over soap. Gently press the piece between paper towels or cloth to dry up most of the moisture. Be sure to fix any folded edges by gently rolling them out. Allow piece to air dry completely before use. This process will decrease the smell quite a bit or eliminate the smell all together. You can also put a small amount of skin safe essential oil inside the prosthetic to help mask the smell.
What type of adhesive/glue is recommended to apply this?
Typically either pro adhesive or silicone adhesives are used. We like brands like; Prosaid, Telesis, Westmore and Silabond.
Can I use Spirit Gum?
Spirit Gum is alcohol based and harsh on the skin. We recommend either pro adhesive or silicone adhesive.
Can I reuse my pieces?
No. All pieces are a one time use.
Am I allergic to foam latex?
If you have a latex allergy, DO NOT USE FOAM LATEX PIECES. If you are not sure, do a small patch test on the wrist or neck to see if there is a reaction. If you do have a latex allergy, we do offer silicone prosthetics and adhesive transfers. Both are latex free.
What is the extra foam around the edges for?
The extra foam is called “flashing”. This is a result of the casting process to help create a thin blending edge. It is to be discarded. Gently remove this before application by pulling it away from the cast piece between your fingers.
What do I use to color my pieces?
Typically PAX paint is used to seal and get a base color on the piece. MELPAX is a great brand for premade pax paints. You can make your own using a 1:1 ratio of pro adhesive and acrylic paint. After the base color dries, other products can be used to finish the paint job. Grease paint, alcohol based paint, makeup etc. please refer to application PDF for more details.
